How We Fight Sickness
This is my go-to list when kiddos are sick. Sometimes I get stuck and can't think of what else to try - so I wrote it down. This isn't a prescriptive list, but rather a help during the chaos. Sometimes I do one thing on the list, sometimes I do ten of them - just depends on the symptoms and severity. Hope it's helpful - get well soon!
At the Onset of Sickness:
Up vitamin D and C (see food chart)
On Guard and lavender essential oil rollers (back of neck and under ear area)
Echinacea tea
Epsom salt bath (1/2-1 cup per bathtub)
Water + lemon + ginger
Fire Cider (it sounds spicy, but it's not too bad. My kids don't refuse it!)
Healthy Chicken Soup/bone broth
Echinacea/goldenseal tincture
Get Over It! by Wish Garden Herbs
Sleep!
Clear nose (XClear Nasal Spray)
Homeopathic medicine (ex. Oscillococcinum)
Just for Colds:
Humidifier with lavender, On Guard or Breathe essential oil
Onion chest poultice (chop onions, add minced garlic and 2 TBSP apple cider vinegar to a saucepan and steam the onions on the stovetop until soft, take onions out of the steamer basket and add to a tea towel, gather edges of the towel to make a 'sack', put on chest for 20-30 min.)
Prop head up while sleeping
Chestal Boiron cough syrup
Vicks on bottom of feet
Pineapple juice (fresh) + ginger drink
Accupressure: rub web between 1st finger and thumb
Daily or Seasonally:
Animal Parade Immune Boosting Vitamins
Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil (1 tsp)
Probiotics (or eat yogurt (no sugar and lots of cultures) or fermented foods like sauerkraut. Click the link for a good list on what to look for.)
Foods to up Vitamin C, A, E, and Zinc
Eggs, nuts, beans, pumpkin seeds, cow milk, yogurt, cheese, bone broth, coconut water, teas, citrus, pineapple, carrots, fermented foods, fish oil, cruciferous veggies, bell peppers (3x more vitamin C than an orange) and...
ROSE HIPS! I buy them dried at Natural Grocers. Boil 1-2 tsp per one cup of water. Strain the solids. 20x more vitamin C than an orange!!
This kettle works really well for brewing rose hips or any loose leaf tea!
